Would You Hold It Against Me?
Harmony eagerly rushed out of her class as the bell rang. She couldn’t suffer another second of math. Whose brilliant idea was it to put numbers and symbols in it anyway? Whoever they were, they deserved cruel and unusual punishment. It was hard enough as it was for her, why did the universe seem to align itself just to challenge her. It wasn’t fair. She adjusted her purse on her shoulder once she was out the door, and went too drop her book off at her locker. Before shutting her locker door, she checked her reflection in her dazzling pink mirror. Perfect, lovely, as usual. After making sure nothing was between her teeth, or that her hair was out of place she approached Jason. The boy with puppy dog eyes who willingly followed her around. It was annoying to say the least, and she would have put a stop to it months ago, except that he had proved himself useful. That pesky math homework wasn’t going to do itself. Jason would do it, and he had learned make sure she got at least a C or a B. The teachers always seemed to know something was up when she got an A. She failed the tests miserably, but she could always manage to pass as long as her homework grade was high enough. Thank god for nerds, she had often thought that he had invented them simply to make life easier for important people such as herself. Maybe the universe had not aligned itself against her after all. Jason was literally living proof that the universe wanted her to succeed.
Jason was a warm, and generally a good hearted person. Harmony made sure to use him to his full potential. Jason had confessed his love for her countless times, and Harmony simply patted him on the head and sent him on his merry way, home work in hand. He was so nice. He really seemed to understand that she was pretty, and had a life. She didn’t have time for reading, or studying. He was more than willing to supply her with whatever grade she needed. Harmony was sure he would expect some kind of payment in return one day, but she was prepared to just laugh and walk away. Jason took the assignment without a word, but just a promising smile that it would be ready and in her hands that afternoon. Harmony continued forward. Once she seen Scott, she picked up the pace. She was not quite ready to talk to her ex yet. Scott was handsome, and he had a nice car, but she just could not get past the mole on his neck. It was nasty. After making out with him last week, her hand accidentally brushed over it. She freaked out and broke up with him on the spot. Every day since then she made sure to avoid his sad face, and longing glances. She did not want to marry Mr. Moleface, and risk their children having the same defect. She was doing humanity a favor by not spreading his genes.
She hated lunch time, the food was gross, the smell was gross, and watching people eat it was double gross. She went to her usual spot outside, nest to the shrubs and small flowers that were just starting to bloom. She hated setting on the dirty cement bench, and took several napkins out of her purse to lay down on her seat. The thought of ruining her new skirt was horrifying. Everyone who was anyone gathered in this small area of the quad. The others were getting a tray of the inedible food, or they were still making their way down the hall. She took out a bottle of water and a granola bar from her purse, and began eating her lunch. She was just thinking of how over rated Monica was, and how the dress she was wearing looked like it came from target when someone interrupted her thoughts.
